Why did you set up Oscar & Joy?
My husband and I lived in London for many years and we loved the southbank area - the galleries, the museums, but we also really loved the shops that were attached to those. They were a bit different, very contemporary, design led and offered interesting products that were inspirational and colourful.
When we moved back to Ireland in 2012 we realised that there was a gap in the market for that kind of store here. So, fast forward a couple of years, 2014, the idea for Oscar & Joy was born.
Why did you choose AirPOS over other point of sale systems?
As our first store I was a bit daunted by the idea of having so many products and how I going to get these on the system, but AirPOS enables you to upload stock in bulk and add new products. Best of all, I can use AirPOS if I am in the shop, at home, on my phone or on the train if I wished.
Additionally, it seemed a very easy system to use. I'm not a very techy person but amazingly I was able to set it up really easily. It's very straight-forward and simple to use and, if I did have any queries, the support offered online was very quick and responsive and always dealt with my problems.
It allows us to access a lot of information, very easily in a way that is useful to us. We can run reports, and look at sales on a daily, weekly, monthly basis and compare it with week on week from previous months.
Can you tell us how AirPOS’ iPad POS helps with the look and feel of your store?
Aside from the fact that AirPOS is really a usable, accessible system, we also loved the fact that it really looked the part for the shop. Everyday we get customers who comment on the till, so it definitely fits with the look and feel we were aiming for - very contemporary, very clean, very minimalist.
You’ve had AirPOS for over a year now. How does it help you operate your business?
Well, in many ways it’s been invaluable to us. It allows us to access a lot of information, very easily in a way that is useful to us. We can run reports, and look at sales on a daily, weekly, monthly basis and compare it with week on week from previous months.
Coming up to Christmas AirPOS will be really invaluable. Because this is only our second year in business, last year we didn't have a lot of this data at our fingertips. But now, thanks to AirPOS, we will be able to look back and see what was selling and when, how much stock we need to order, and plan better for next year.
